04MEET YOUR COACH
A BLACK BELT.
AN EDUCATOR.
IN YOUR CORNER.
Nick Coletti
First-degree black belt · Head instructor
Great jiujitsu and great teaching are different skills. Nick brings both: over 16 years on the mats, 13 years of teaching, and a master’s degree in special education.
On Top exists because he got tired of how the traditional hour is spent: a warm-up, three specific moves drilled on a partner who is helping you, then a few rounds at the end to find out whether any of it holds up. He wanted an hour where you are training the whole time.
Coaching, instruction and the science of training are what he cares about most. CLA is not a label he picked up, it is the thing he is genuinely passionate about, and he will happily talk your ear off about why a round is set up the way it is. Ask him and you will get a real answer.
Expect thoughtful coaching, a sense of humor, and someone who cares about your progress as much as you do.
THE CONSTRAINTS LED APPROACH
DON’T JUST
LEARN A MOVE.
LEARN TO MOVE.
Instead of memorizing a long sequence, you get a situation, a goal, and a partner who responds in real time.
That’s the Constraints-Led Approach, or CLA: a modern training and coaching method rooted in ecological dynamics. Your coach changes the constraint to help you discover better solutions, whether it’s your first week or your tenth year.
Classes are designed around the people in the room and they are live from start to finish. A session is seven to nine six-minute rounds: two from a standing engagement, two from a guarded engagement, two from a pinning engagement, then one to three rounds of regular rolling. No warm-up, no drilling, and 48 to 54 minutes of active training in a 60-minute session.
- Live, responsive partners in every class
- One level: everyone trains together
- Tasks adapted to your experience
- Competition support if you want it
